Bolton le Sands Primary School

Bolton-le-Sands CE Primary is a school that continues to exceed expectations and receives outstanding OFSTED reports each time it is inspected. The school logo however was old and tired and needed redeveloping to be more meaningful to the children and more adaptable for use in digital formats. Working with the children, we developed a logo that incorporates the cornerstones of the community that the school belongs to.

What we did

Working with the staff and the children, we identified the key elements that they would like to include in the logo. These included the sea, the canal, the mountains, the fields, the sky with the Church at the heart of the village. We then asked them to sketch these elements in a workshop. Once we had collated their ideas and drawings, we were able to develop a logo that encapsulated each element within a heart and with a cross at the centre. We then went on to work with uniform suppliers to ensure that the logo was well reproduced in all forms of embroidery and screen printing on different coloured items, along with developing plans for external signage and branding. We have also developed an email marketing system for them that enables them to send a cost-effective email newsletter to all parents on a weekly basis simply and quickly.

Christ The King is a specialist maths and computing high school in Preston.

What we did

Christ The King had been impressed by the work that we do for Preston’s College and so they invited us in to pitch for the design and build of their new website. We were selected not only for the quality of our ideas but also because of the breadth of our experience in the education marketplace and our depth of understanding of the various issues involved.

Using WordPress we have created a simple, easy to run website for them that staff are finding easy to manage and update internally. Although the budget was limited, we were able to suggest ideas and plug-ins that we have used for other schools.

Love Garden Birds

Love Garden Birds is a new start-up formed by directors exiting a competitor company. As people who had a passion for garden birds, they were keen to develop the lucrative market for bird feed and encourage people to look after the wildlife that surrounds them all year round.

What we did

As a start-up web based, the budget had to work hard so we helped them to get going with a strong brand identity and carefully thought through web design. The brand is now fully launched and enjoying its first winter season – we’re sure the birds are too.

Firwood Paints

Firwood Paints

Firwood develop paints and industrial coatings for all kinds of industries. Their non-slip technology was used on the stairways in the Olympic stadium and Anthony Gormley uses their finishes to protect the Angel of The North. A long standing customer of Apparatus, we have been managing their marketing projects for 7 years.

What we did

Firwood originally came to us because they wanted to rebrand. After a 3 way pitch, we won the account because they loved our creativity. They deal with industrial products and finishes but their clients range from mechanics and warehouse managers to Anthony Gormley and the National Gallery. We saw no reason why their products shouldn’t be beautiful. Once the corporate identity was completed, they wanted to be able to sub-brand their products so we developed extended ranges that would work through print and packaging. The distinctive designs mean that customers can identify the products they need easily, assisting them both as they re-order (online and by phone) but also in the workplace when they need to be able to identify finishes efficiently.

Although they had invested heavily online, looking at their client base which is mostly industrial, we also encouraged them to produce catalogues for the first time. These have been successful in increasing both the value and frequency of orders so we now produce them on a quarterly basis. They also trust us with their swatch cards which require a high degree of accuracy to avoid returns – credit indeed.

Lidl

Lidl needs no introduction but it is one of the UK’s leading discount supermarket chains. With a head office in Germany, their British marketing operations are managed in the UK.

What we did

Lidl approached us for help with raising awareness that they stock regional British food as well as international delicacies. They wanted to attract new footfall as well as communicating with their existing customer base and they required a solution that could be re-used whenever needed. We developed a marketing campaign celebrating the food specialities of each of the kingdoms: Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland that would be executed locally to each store. Each region has its own campaign celebrating local foodstuffs stocked by Lidl.

The project involved photography, video, copywriting and translation services which we fulfilled before creating a seamless campaign that involved poster sites for ambient and static media, in-store point of sale, direct mail and web content.

Holgates is a family-owned leisure group with holiday parks spanning the Cumbria/Lancashire border. They offer holiday homes to rent or buy at scenic sites that hug the coast of Morecambe Bay.

What we did

Holgates required a full service marketing agency to take care of all of their needs across their business. We helped them to launch a completely new park in a new area and attract new visitors to the site who were interested in buying properties in coastal regions. They hired Apparatus to manage their branding, website, advertising, PR, signage and wayfinding
