LGGS has been educating girls in Lancaster for over 100 years and ranks 10th in the UK for selective state schools. Immensely over subscribed, they do very little marketing but when an important education project arose, they selected Apparatus.

The school’s centenary was approaching and LGGS was planning to celebrate with a number of high profile events. The head was also about to retire and needed to ensure that the school was well presented for the recruitment process of a new head which would attract national attention. Apparatus was therefore commissioned to develop a new identity and logo for the school – the first for 100 years. Naturally it was a project that needed to be handled sensitively; the school has a legacy of success and many were keen to reference the past whilst looking to the future. We not only had to develop the identity but we also had to work hard with all stakeholders to ensure that everybody was on board with the changes that would take place and understood the thinking behind them.
After presenting to the head, we then also presented to the girls, the governors, staff and parents, explaining the historic references that we had incorporated from interpretations of the logo through the years and also the need for an identity that would work as well online as offline for the future. Working this way ensured that there was little resistance to what could have been a difficult process. Once the new identity was approved, we managed the onsite changeover of signage and wayfinding as well as creating a new prospectus and souvenir collateral for the centenary celebrations.
